High-protein foods you probably don’t know about…

I’m sure many of you, like me, have been in a position before where you’ve struggled to get enough of your required protein intake in. Well, here’s a list of foods I consume regularly that are considered ‘high-protein’ but may not be obvious. There are more choices out there, to get your protein from, than the standard shakes and beans!
Bagels and bread
Oh yes. Bagels and other wheat products, such as bread, actually have more protein in them than you may think. New York Bakery Co. and Aldi’s Natural Bagel Co. bagels have nearly 10 grams of protein per serving! Just check the nutrition label on the back of any brand for information.
Cereal and oats
Cereal may be on the lists of foods deemed as ‘bad’ and unhealthy- but not all. Of course, there are some overly-sugary cereals on the market but things like Weetabix are my go-to's (or ‘Wheat Bisks’ from Aldi)! Per 70 gram serving of the Wheat Bisks Crispy Bites (with chocolate bits may I add) is 7.8 grams of protein! Oats, per 100 grams, can provide 11 grams of protein also. Plus, your choice of milk and you’re good to go!
Bacon (medallions)
Ah, bacon- notoriously associated with fat. Well, if you’re a fan, this may change your life. Lean bacon slices, without the fat, can have approximately 5.5 grams of protein per serving. So, a couple of pieces of bacon medallions, plus eggs, cream cheese and a bagel in the morning could effortlessly take you up to 50 grams of protein- in just one meal (yum)!
Rice
Another carbohydrate that’s not just an energy source. As well something that’s easily digestible, basmati rice can provide 8.8 grams of protein per 100 grams. So with meat or an alternative, rice can really add up the protein.
Waffles and pancakes
Okay, (before you get excited) I’m not talking about sugary ready-made ones but waffle and pancake mixes are amazing if you need a sweet treat AND a bit of protein. Wait, what? More foods that are primarily carbs that can help your gains- guilt-free? I’m talking about specific brands like Kodiak Cakes, which is a pancake/waffle/flapjack ready-made mixture with high protein. A standard serving provides 14 grams of protein (and they do quite a few flavours too)! There are products you can get that aren’t even specifically ‘high-protein’ and still provide an adequate amount. Saying that though, MyProtein currently have a sale going on for their protein pancake mixes from £4.05, with 33.5 grams of protein per 50g serving!
